The collection contains letters written home to his parents in Dunkirk, N.Y. by college freshman, B. Clifford Ticknor, at The Pennsylvania State College; and letters received from his sister Hildegarde, his mother, and his cousin Adele Palmer with family news. Ticknor writes about the sub-freshman and freshman classes he is taking in 1906, going out for football and basketball, laments that he is not cut out to be an engineer, and describes taking exams and traveling from Dunkirk to State College. In 1912 Ticknor writes home from Carthage, N.Y. about settling a claim for the death of a paper mill worker in Pyrites, N.Y., outside Canton.
